A project inspired by the Sikh practice of not cutting one's hair, the vivd royalty and heritage of India (which is often unseen by Western media), empowering South Asian women, as well as the long processes involved in Indian handicrafts.
At its core, this series is about identity, hair, and power. I’ve moved around all my life, found different facets within myself to connect with in different cultures and surroundings - but my hair and my connection with it has not only been omnipresent, but grew stronger over time. My strength emanates through my hair - and being a Sikh girl, my hair is a really huge part of my identity. Hence, this series explores my evolving identity, and my connection with the cultures I grew up in and around.
